Mindfulness In Tango -- The Breath

Welcome ! I'm here to share with you my experience, thoughts, and realizations on this topic.

Tango Bliss is one of the Ultimate sought-after feelings of Tango dancers. We often chase after this particular partner that we had such a great dance with, thinking only that person, or that type of music, or that type of environment will again create this Blissful moment. This Tango Bliss keeps us going to classes to improve our skills and dance techniques; keeps us going to milongas and tango marathons to search for those we may encounter again to reproduce such a Blissful moment... 

Is it So Rare? How can we achieve this On-Demand? 

Mindfulness is the answer! In this blog, let me focus on the Mindfulness of Breath, as a simple practical tool.  

I can not breath for the past, nor the future, only NOW, one breath at a time. Breath is my anchor of the Present Moment because it is Purely in THIS Moment. When I start my embrace with a partner, I take a gentle but deep breath, bring my mind to Here and Now, just with my partner. It instantly reduces the anxiety of wanting to control the future, or the regrets of unfixable past. This techinique is especially helpful when I dance with someone I feel above my level, because I might have concerns on how I would keep up the "performance" with this partner. Breath anchors me to the Present without the mind chatter, reduces self-judgement and overall judgement on others, therefore brings unpolluted energy into the moment, share with my dance partner. 

On a more complex level, I can use my breath to synch with the music, the energy frequency of the movemnet. I can breath deep and slow during a Pugliese song, or soft and light on a Carnaro milonga song. The dance is no longer just a physical activity, I offer my energy to my partner like a gift. The magic Mirror Neurons of my partner will soon sense and my partner embraces my gift. While the music pass through both of our bodies and minds, the dance now morphs into an Energy Exchange between us. THIS is Limbic Synchrony, the conduit of Connecting Energy between me and my partner...
